Comparing Indian Road Deaths with England...

As promised, part two looks at the situation in Britain. Both India and the UK have different ways of reporting their road accident data, which makes comparisons a little difficult (e.g. I couldn't find any information on the actual number of accidents in the UK), and the UK breaks the data down into 'Unitary Authorities' which covers the entire UK (though not all of that was used here), whereas India only provide the most populous 50 cities.

Either way, I think some good conclusions can be drawn from both data sets: There are far more road deaths per capita in India than in the UK, so if you are thinking of hiring a car to drive around India, though it will be incredibly fun, you're at very least three times more likely to die over there than you would be here. So err... have fun!
