The Silent Privatisation of the NHS

The NHS has long suffered at the hands of the ruling government of the time, whether Labour, Conservative or Coalition. As the hand wielding power changes, so does the 'strategic vision' leaving this vital part of British Life open to change or 'reorganisation'.

With our current Coalition government, we are seeing vast chunks of the NHS being offered up to the Private Sector. The main issue is the complete lack of transparency around this process, very rarely does a tender find itself in the press. Dr Eoin Clarke at The Green Benches has been compiling this list since January 2012, mainly sourced from the Government's own NHS Tendering website aimed at suppliers looking to win contracts. Finding out who has actually won a tender, or even the current status of the tender, isn't quite so easy.

The question then: why the secrecy?

Perhaps the volume and value of tenders offered up over the past 2 years gives a bit of a clue, could any government really survive unscathed an electorate armed with such knowledge?
